Fulfilling a Dream: Carrying Dr King’s Legacy Through Connection and Impact

Reflecting on Dr. King’s Dream of Connection and Impact

On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his famous speech to a group of civil rights advocates gathered around the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. He described his dream of people of all backgrounds coming together, connecting with one another, to impact their community and to change a nation. He believed in our ability to be something great if we worked together to ensure there was equal opportunity for all men and women to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.

Although Dr. King did not live to see how his legacy influenced many generations, his legacy would pave the way for many to pursue opportunities in education and in business. His work opened doors that were once closed to communities of color. It is this work that paved the way for our success at ONC National and that will continue to pave the way of success for generations to come.

Feeling the Impact of Dr. King’s Legacy in Our Company

As a minority-owned business, the impact of Dr. King’s legacy is felt at ONC National every day. We are thankful for his compassion and his courage as he relentlessly pursued equality and opportunity for people of color. His work will continue to be felt as we work to improve our community; his sacrifices will continue to be remembered as we make sacrifices to serve our customers and community.

Knowing we have been given a unique opportunity in an important cultural moment, we want to lead the way in fulfilling Dr. King’s dream by creating meaningful connections and pursuing partnerships that will lead to lasting impact.

Carrying on Dr. King’s Legacy in Our Community

In honor of Dr. King’s memory, we want to continue his good work and help create a better future for the next generation. We want to provide connections that lead to opportunities and opportunities that lead to change.

At ONC National, our mission is to make connection possible because we believe effecting change begins with our ability to connect with one another. To connect with people outside of our network, we are committed to pursuing diversity, equity, and inclusion and to practicing social responsibility.

Like Dr. King, we believe in the importance of equal opportunity for all people. We believe inclusion begins with diversity and ends in equity, leading to opportunity in the workplace and equality in the world. So, our company is committed to seeking diversity in our leadership, establishing equitable business practices, and creating a community of inclusion through the power of connection.

Throughout his life, Dr. King talked about the importance of living a life in service to others. He believed our talents and resources were to be used to benefit others and not just ourselves. His words have inspired us to take action as we partner with organizations and participate in programs to help meet the needs of our community. We know that, when basic needs are being met consistently, it builds self-esteem and creates opportunity for people to pursue and attain higher education and employment.

When we connect people to opportunities, we help a community grow. And when communities grow, businesses grow. And when businesses grow, they can impact more communities. That is our dream—to connect businesses with the tools they need to grow and impact the communities in which they live, work, and play.

Dr. King imagined a future where we connected with one another, regardless of race, gender, or religion, to impact our community and change our nation. Today, as we celebrate the life of Dr. King, we encourage you to continue his legacy by creating meaningful connections and lasting impact through words of love and acts of kindness.
